Etsy Offsite Ads is the most controversial fee in the platform's structure. Etsy automatically enrolls every seller, advertises their listings externally, and charges a 12–15% fee when those ads generate a sale — with no ability to opt out once your shop crosses $10,000 in annual revenue.

This guide explains exactly how Offsite Ads work, who pays what rate, who can opt out and whether they should, and how to price products to remain profitable even when a significant share of your sales carry the Offsite Ads attribution.

What Are Etsy Offsite Ads?

Etsy Offsite Ads is Etsy's external advertising program. Etsy takes your listings and promotes them on Google Shopping, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing — at Etsy's own advertising expense. When a buyer clicks one of these external ads and purchases from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges you an Offsite Ads fee on the order total.

You pay nothing if the ad does not lead to a sale within 30 days. The cost only materializes on conversions — which is why Etsy frames it as a performance-based marketing fee rather than traditional advertising spend.

The Two Rate Tiers

Annual Etsy SalesOffsite Ads RateCan Opt Out?Fee Cap Per Order
Under $10,00015%✅ Yes$100
$10,000 or more12%❌ No — mandatory$100

Annual sales are calculated on a rolling 365-day basis. Once you cross $10,000, the program becomes mandatory and you cannot opt back out — even if your sales dip below $10,000 in a subsequent 12-month window.

How the 30-Day Attribution Window Works

The attribution window is 30 days. If a buyer clicks an Etsy Offsite Ad on Monday and purchases from your shop the following Friday, the sale is attributed to the ad — even if the buyer found your shop through other means in the interim, or searched Etsy directly before purchasing.

This 30-day window is longer than most paid advertising platforms use (Google and Meta both default to 7-day click windows). It means more of your organic sales may be tagged as Offsite Ads conversions than you would expect, particularly during any period when Etsy is actively running campaigns for your product category.

Should You Opt Out? (Under $10,000 Sellers)

The opt-out decision depends on your product type, margins, and whether Offsite Ads are actually driving incremental sales for your shop.

How to Price for Offsite Ads

The correct approach is to price every product as if some share of your sales will carry the Offsite Ads fee. If you expect 20–30% of sales to be Offsite Ads attributions, model your pricing to be profitable at the blended rate.

Pricing model: On a $40 item with $6 shipping: Standard fees = $0.20 + $2.99 + $1.63 = $4.82. With 15% Offsite Ads: add $6.90 = $11.72 total fees. Net profit at $12 COGS and $5 shipping cost: $40 + $6 − $12 − $5 − $11.72 = $17.28 (43.2% margin on item price). Workable. At $25 item price, same inputs with Offsite Ads: margin drops to 22%. Borderline.

How to Opt Out (Under $10,000 Sellers)

To opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads when eligible:

  1. Go to Shop Manager → Marketing → Offsite Ads
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  3. Click "Turn off Offsite Ads"
  4. Confirm the opt-out

The opt-out takes effect immediately. You will stop being enrolled in Etsy's external advertising campaigns and will no longer be charged the Offsite Ads fee on future sales. You can re-enroll at any time by returning to the same settings page.
